The National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) is domiciled in the National Malaria and Vector Control Division, in the Department of Public Health of the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria. It is mandated to formulate, facilitate policy & guidelines, coordinate the activities of partners and other stakeholders on malaria control activities. It is also charged with providing technical support to implementing bodies including states, LGAs and stakeholders, mobilization of resources, monitoring and evaluation of progress and outcomes in malaria control efforts. The NMEP has a National Malaria Strategic Plan, 2014 – 2020 which was developed to respond to the Goal and Vision of NMEP. The National coordinator of the program is Dr Perpetual Uhomoibhi.

To provide equitable, comprehensive, cost effective, efficient and quality malaria control services ensuring transparency, accountability, client satisfaction, community ownership and partnership.
VISION
To have a malaria free Nigeria.
Goals
The Goal of this Strategic Plan is to reduce malaria burden to pre-elimination levels and bring malaria-related mortality to zero
Objectives
▪ To provide at least 80% of the targeted population utilizes appropriate preventive measures by 2020
▪ To test all care-seeking persons with suspected malaria using RDT or microscopy by 2020
▪ To treat all individuals with confirmed malaria seen in private or public facilities with effective anti-malarial drugs by 2020
▪ To provide adequate information to all Nigerians such that at least 80% of the populace habitually takes appropriate malaria preventive and treatment measures as necessary by 2020
▪ To ensure the timely availability of appropriate antimalarial medicines and commodities required for prevention and treatment of malaria in Nigeria wherever they are needed by 2018.
▪ At least 80% of health facilities in all LGAs report routinely on malaria by 2020, progress is measured, and evidence is used for programme improvement
▪ To strengthen governance and coordination of all stakeholders for effective program implementation towards an 'A’ rating by 2017 sustained through to 2020 on a standardized scorecard
