The Federal Government on Tuesday 14th June, 2022 reappointed Dr. Obi Adigwe as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) Abuja, for a second and final term of four (4) years with effect from 10th August, 2022. He’s reappointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Honourable Minister of State for Health Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora on behalf of Mr. President.

The Minister, who conveyed the letter to Adigwe, at the Federal Ministry of Health Conference Room in Abuja, congratulated him for a well-deserved reappointment based on recognition of his achievements during his first tenure, also reminded him that the position he occupies is that of privilege. He charged him to justify that privilege, through his actions and achievements by leaving a legacy that he would want to be remembered for.

Mamora urged the DG to work harmoniously in unity of purpose with the board and management of the Institute because no progress can be made in an atmosphere devoid of peace. He said, this is not a time to sit back because it is your final tenure, but rather a time to work harder based on the enormous responsibilities and expectations of the office. He enjoined him to improve on the gains earlier recorded at the Institute by surpassing his own expectations.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Mahmuda Mamman while congratulating the DG, said that each new responsibility comes with a challenge but he is optimistic that Adigwe will live up to the challenges. “We know you are capable, you have the experience and everything that it takes, but we want to see a lot of your landmark at the Ministry. We can only do that if we task you and that is why we are tasking you now. We want to see if it is possible, that every month a brand new vaccine and drugs will be registered from your Institute, so this is the expectation we have and I think you have to live up to that responsibility”.

Dr. Adigwe who was grateful to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Health, for their tremendous support to the Institute pledged that, he and his team will dedicate themselves to national development to enable them surpass the expectations and mandate given to the Institute.
